One of my favourite times to work is really, really early in the morning.
Practical perks include enjoying your lunch break while everyone else is still making their way to work, finishing when others are going to lunch and being free in the afternoon to do whatever you please.
But to be out and about before sunrise is why I keep doing them—I simply can’t find a way to describe how beautiful I find the serenity, the near silence, the way the shadows fall and the colours of the sky as the sun prepares for the day.
And sadly, my phone camera struggles just as much to convey the real beauty of these moments as I see them.
Okay, the last one isn’t really a display of beauty. I love the stark contrast of the 7-11 compared to its surrounds though (even if my actual eyes didn’t at the time). I guess it’s also an assurance that if 3.30am is too early to eat breakfast, you will be able to find breakfast on the way to work—just as long as you can stomach a “Mexican salsa” chicken sandwich breakfast.
Haha – yes, I also love to be up before 5AM. There’s just something about it isn’t there.
I daresay that one of the things about it, when living in Ballarat, is necessity. 😛
For some reason, my calendar *still* has your birthday in it. Happy Birthday, wherever you are – maybe see you on a tram one day. Who knows.
Good to hear from you and belated thanks!
Please also accept my own belated birthday wishes to you for two weeks ago.
It’s amazing how five years can seem to have gone by so slowly, and yet also so quickly.
I start work at about 0700 HRS and I do that simply to get work done. Working alone in the morning gives me 2 hours of un-interrupted thinking time.
Its a luxury.
I wholeheartedly agree. There were times at REA and my old job where I’d do the same thing for about a week at a time. They were few and far between though; I guess I was just too lazy. 😛
Alex, you’ve captured the beauty of an early morning tram drive beautifully in your photographs. It’s one of my fave shifts too.
A pleasure to meet you today during GP movements, hope the transfer comes through and we’ll see lots more of you.
Thanks Drew! Very nice to meet you too. Quite looking forward to the transfer!
Beautiful, Alex!
Impressed.
Good to see you behind a camera again, even if it IS only your phone (Android doesn’t have the best reputation for photo quality, but you’re doing ok!)
The last one was at first, less impressive than the rest but your ‘artists statement’ brought it up to the bar 😀
